Peter Beyli
Attraverso le sue opere, l’artista russo Peter Belyi (Leningrado, USSR, 1971), compie un’indagine sull’origine della coscienza culturale. Per molti anni l’artista ha portato avanti un progetto denominato “modellatura commemorativa”, termine che nell’Unione Sovietica degli anni Venti indicava i modelli di un’architettura utopica proiettata nel futuro. Nella produzione dell’artista russo, rovesciando i termini e il significato della modellatura storica, tale concetto vuole significare una rilettura della storia che ne diviene una decostruzione. Nei mausolei, ad esempio, vengono riprese architetture di edifici, come fabbriche e ospedali, tipiche della Russia degli anni Settanta, rappresentate in forma di mausolei appunto, ma realizzate in cartongesso e in avanzato stato di distruzione, come se gli scheletri di tali architetture, mai terminate, fossero stati bombardati. Essi si trasfigurano per diventare emblema dell’ideologia che, come quelle costruzioni precarie, cade in rovina.
Gli ultimi progetti sembrano misurarsi invece più direttamente col materiale che l’artista utilizza. Sembra che l’artista cerchi un’ispirazione dal materiale stesso o che, in un dialogo segreto e tutto personale tra di lui e il materiale scelto, questi, si aspetti che sia lo stesso materiale a suggerire il tema dell’opera. Peter Belyi mira così ad una perfetta interazione tra estetica e materialità, che coincide in maniera tautologica con il significato dell’opera.

«L’artista sceglie una maggetta ai piedi della montagna come luogo contemplativo nel quale costruisce una grande palazzo in cartongesso che poi è stato da lui distrutto con martellate e pietrate. Cosi facendo ha voluto manifestare la situazione politica ed economica che in quel periodo e negli anni precedenti si vive nel suo paese di origine, la Russia.
Infine ha voluto che l’opere nello scorrere del tempo venisse riassorbita dalla grande forza della natura pantesca, piantando delle piante vicino l’opera.
